Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Victorian animal painting gained popularity in 19th-century Britain, focusing on realistic depictions of domestic livestock, farmyard scenes, and pet portraiture. Artists such as Edgar Hunt specialised in meticulous detail, capturing the texture of feathers and rural barn interiors.

Paintings from this era were typically executed using oil-based pigments applied to stretched linen or cotton canvas. Frames were commonly crafted from carved timber with applied gesso and gold leaf gilding.

Authentic works often feature period-correct canvas stretching methods, visible age-related craquelure across the paint layer, and original signatures. The reverse of the canvas and frame typically displays natural oxidisation and historical framer labels.

Position the framed painting as a focal point above a sideboard, fireplace mantel, or console table in a neutral room. Combining traditional artwork with contemporary lighting or minimalist furniture creates a balanced, layered aesthetic.

Keep the artwork away from direct sunlight, extreme humidity, and direct heat sources to prevent cracking or warping. Dust the frame and canvas gently using a soft, dry camel-hair brush without chemical cleaners.
