Pair of Antique French Cast Iron Medici Garden Urns C.1890

A highly decorative and substantial matching pair of late 19th-century French cast iron garden urns, designed in the Neo-Classical Medici style.

Of elegant Campana form, each planter features a wide, flared rim decorated with a crisp egg-and-dart relief border. The lower bowl displays a finely detailed gadrooned or fluted underbelly, which tapers down into a turned circular socle pedestal. The entire structure rests securely on an integral square plinth base.

The defining characteristic of this pair is their exceptional, multi-layered weathered green painted finish. Having spent decades in a traditional setting, the paint has naturally cracked, flaked, and oxidized. This authentic weathering has created a richly textured, country-house aesthetic that cannot be replicated by modern distressing techniques.
