This impressive neoclassical study portrays Diana, the Roman goddess of the hunt, shown with serene expression and finely detailed coiffure, her draped garment falling gracefully from one shoulder in the classical manner.

Executed in white statuary marble, the sculpture stands on its original turned socle and is presented upon a substantial green marble pedestal, giving the piece wonderful scale and presence. A sophisticated Grand Tour–style decorative object, ideally suited to a hall, drawing room or conservatory interior.

Inspired by the celebrated “Diana of Versailles” type held in the Louvre Museum, Paris, this piece reflects the enduring popularity of classical mythology in late 19th century Italian sculpture.
