Antique Hebdomas Patent Full Hunter Pocket Watch

1900 - 1920
Description

Antique Hebdomas Patent full hunter pocket watch.

The watch has a hand-winding movement which is working nicely… originally it was intended that the watch ran for eight days but now it runs and works nicely for five days, over which time it was around four minutes out. The movement is protected by an inner fitted cover which has various details of the movement.

The watch measures 51mm diameter excluding the winding stem and loop. The case is gold plated and it is in good condition with engine turned detail to the front and back… the front also has the monogram initials of the original owner, DJE.

The winding crown pushes in to open the front cover.

Inside, there is an acrylic lens which is in good condition.

The dial looks good to the naked eye but there are a few hairlines if viewed through a jeweller’s loupe. Original blued steel hands.

The watch comes in a new presentation box.

Dealers Notes

ALL PRICES INCLUDE UK POSTAGE (because of GPSR legislation, we no longer post items less than 100 years old to Europe, including Northern Ireland).

Please contact us regarding international shipping.

All of our watches are checked over before listing, and are also checked for accuracy which is usually within around +/- two to three minutes over 24 hours (unless otherwise stated), which is considered respectable for a vintage watch.

We are a VAT registered company and all purchases are covered by Consumer Regulations.

Credit / debit card purchases up to £300 can be made over the telephone on 01386 750238 or you can proceed via the 'Purchase Antique' button on each listing page. Alternatively, there is a Paypal payment link if you scroll down the page and we also accept bank transfers.

We are an on-line only business and do not have facilities for callers. Our offices are open from Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm.

With regards to appraisals / valuations, we receive a huge number of information requests each day and unfortunately do not have the manpower to deal with them all individually. Our advice would be to contact a local auctioneer for a full appraisal.

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Patented in Switzerland in 1888 by Schild Freres, a Hebdomas pocket watch is defined by its eight-day power reserve mainspring and a signature open-escapement dial featuring a visible balance wheel.

Pocket watches from this era were constructed using materials such as solid gold, silver, or rolled gold for the outer case, coupled with glass crystals and hand-painted vitreous enamel dials.

Authentic timepieces feature specific hallmark stamps, case maker engravings inside the covers, mechanical hand-wound movements, and distinctive period dial typography rather than battery-operated components.

Display a pocket watch under a glass dome cloche, suspend it from a dedicated brass pocket watch stand, or arrange it inside a velvet-lined shadow box frame alongside other horological instruments.

Keep the timepiece stored in a dry, temperature-controlled environment away from magnetic fields, wind the mainspring gently without forcing the mechanism, and have the mechanical movement serviced periodically by a professional horologist.
