Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

This large Korean traditional bandaji chest of drawers dates from 1930 and follows a classic gentlemen's library design aesthetic. The piece is constructed from wood with a rich dark brown elm veneer finish, showing a striking exposed grain across the drawer fronts and sides. It is heavily decorated with ornate brass hardware, including geometric corner brackets, butterfly-style corner mounts, and foliate drawer pulls. The upper section features a pair of small drawers above five wider graduating drawers below, all resting on a sturdy moulded plinth base with a projecting top moulding. The item measures 105 cm in width, 56 cm in depth, and 138 cm in height. This substantial storage chest works well in a bedroom, study, or hallway as a striking focal point while providing ample practical organisation for clothing, linens, or paperwork. Its imposing scale and traditional metalwork bring a distinct architectural presence to contemporary interior spaces.

FAQs

Bandaji chests originate from traditional Korean woodwork, historically featuring heavy brass or iron fittings alongside specialized storage arrangements for clothing and textiles.

Traditional Korean cabinetry incorporates native timbers such as elm, pine, or paulownia, combined with decorative hand-forged brass or iron corner brackets and lock plates.

Authentic pieces display distinct joinery techniques, natural timber grain, hand-finished metalwork mounts, and clear lacquer or oil finishes designed to highlight wood figure.

A brass-bound Korean chest functions as a focal storage piece in neutral entryways, bedrooms, or living spaces, complementing both contemporary and eclectic decorative schemes.

Dust the timber regularly with a dry microfibre cloth, apply natural beeswax sparingly to preserve the wood finish, and lightly buff metal mounts without harsh chemical cleaners.
