Shin Gunto refers to the style of swords crafted for officers of the Imperial Japanese Army between 1935 and 1945. They were designed to modernise military dress while retaining the aesthetic and form of traditional Japanese samurai katanas.

These swords typically feature high-carbon steel blades, brass or bronze mounts (tsuba), ray skin or cloth wrapping on the wooden handle (tsuka), and a protective leather cover over a wooden or metal scabbard (saya).
