Japanese Ginbari Enamel Over Copper Cloisonne Vase

Description

Japanese Ginbari enamel over copper Cloisonne vase beautifully decorated with blossoming flowers . The flowers have a shimmering background of gold and silver enamel with some green highlight.

Ginbari is a Japanese cloisonne technique when clear enamel is laid over a stippled silver layer applied to the copper sheet body. Unmarked. Late meiji period c 1860-1912 Excellent original condition

History

Ginbari is a unique Japanese cloisonne where textured silver foil is wrapped around the metal body (normally brassor copper) and wire silver before the transparent enamel is applied.
