This nineteenth-century Victorian country pine chest of drawers possesses a warm brown timber finish with a polished top and a dark painted plinth base. The traditional two-over-two drawer configuration features dovetailed drawers fitted with small round turned dark wooden knobs, complemented by solid timber sides and back. General usage wear is visible across the surfaces while the piece remains sturdy and ready for everyday use. Measuring 103 cm wide, 76 cm deep, and 44 cm deep, this small well-proportioned chest suits various residential spaces as a functional bedroom storage unit, a bedside cabinet, or a compact hallway storage table. Its rustic farmhouse design integrates easily into traditional and transitional interior schemes.

FAQs

Nineteenth-century pine chests of drawers are defined by their utilitarian construction, warm natural timber patination, and functional drawer arrangements, such as the classic two short over two long drawer configuration.

These chests were typically crafted using solid pine boards joined with hand-cut dovetail joints, featuring turned wooden drawer knobs and supported by bracket feet or a solid plinth base.

Authentic period pieces display evidence of hand-planed timber on drawer bottoms, hand-cut dovetails, original runner wear, and natural oxidation that darkens the pine over time.

A pine chest can be integrated into contemporary spaces by contrasting its warm wood tone against modern artwork, textured ceramics, or contemporary wall colours in neutral or dark palettes.

To preserve the wood, apply a clear beeswax polish periodically, dust with a soft lint-free cloth, and position the piece away from direct heat sources and direct sunlight to prevent drying or splitting.
