Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Victorian hall benches were designed during the 19th century to provide seating in entryways while displaying decorative woodwork. Many examples drew inspiration from earlier Tudor and Jacobean styles, incorporating heavy oak construction and elaborate hand-carved details.

These benches were typically constructed from solid European oak. Cabinetmakers utilized traditional joinery techniques, such as mortise and tenon joints, alongside hand-turned legs and decorative relief carving on the backrest panels.

Authentic pieces display natural wear and uneven patination, particularly on high-touch areas like armrests and seats. Inspecting the underside often reveals historical hand-planing marks, original joinery pegs, and aged hardware rather than modern uniform fixings.

A dark oak bench serves as a focal point when placed against neutral or muted wall tones in an entryway or hallway. Softening the hard timber with a modern linen cushion or placing contemporary artwork above it creates a balanced contrast between period character and modern design.

Dust the timber regularly with a soft, dry microfiber cloth. Periodically apply a natural beeswax polish to protect the finish and maintain the wood patination, keeping the piece away from direct heat sources to prevent cracking.
