This early 20th century French bedstead adopts the Louis XV style, constructed from walnut and parquetry veneer with warm brown timber tones and hand-painted floral motifs. The high shaped headboard and wrapped footboard display a flowing serpentine form, carved cresting, and delicate painted bouquets and swags set against inlaid geometric panels. Fine mouldings trace the uprights, while slender turned legs fitted with brass castors support the frame. The bed measures 124 cm high, 115 cm wide, and 201 cm deep overall. Suitably sized for a traditional bedroom or a boutique guest suite, this statement frame dismantles for straightforward transport and installation. The refined silhouette and colourful painted decoration integrate smoothly into period interiors and refined country homes. Placed against a neutral wall, the decorative woodwork forms a striking focal point for a bedroom arrangement.

FAQs

French beds from the turn of the 20th century frequently blend Louis XV and Louis XVI Revival elements, featuring curved side rails, parquetry wood veneers, and decorative embellishments such as hand-painted floral motifs or delicate carvings.

Craftsmen typically utilised hardwoods like walnut, beech, or fruitwood for the framing structure, incorporating parquetry or marquetry wood veneers, hand-applied paints, and iron connecting rails with brass castors.

Authentic pieces generally feature traditional hand-cut joinery, original iron rail fittings, natural surface wear along edges, and curved or wrapped footboard shapes designed to accommodate traditional mattress sizes.

Pairing the frame with crisp neutral linen bedding and understated contemporary lighting creates a balanced look that highlights historic craftsmanship without overwhelming the space.

Dust surfaces regularly with a soft, dry microfibre cloth and avoid harsh chemical cleaners, silicone polishes, or direct placement near heat sources and direct sunlight.
