Complete Set of 9 Victorian Harvest Jugs

1900 - 1920
Description

An impressive set of NINE Victorian graduated copper HARVEST JUGS** in lovely original condition. This complete set comprises nine measures each stamped with the quantity of their contents: Gallon; Half-Gallon; Quart; Pint; Half-Pint; Gill; Half-Gill; Quarter Gill…and Eighth Gill, whilst each handled jug also has its applied pewter makers’ stamp. Largest (the Gallon) 10.5ins (26.75cms) high; the smallest (Eighth Gill) 3ins (7.65cms) tall. English; c1890-1910. Priced for the set of nine.

** “Harvest” Jugs are so-called because they were traditionally used to carry cider or ale to farmworkers working in the fields during harvest time.
