Rawlings Antiques has dated this piece to the 18th Century.
Constructed in solid chestnut, the armoire features two panelled doors with flowing, shaped mouldings, centred by original decorative brass escutcheons and fittings. The richly figured chestnut has developed a warm, well-patinated surface consistent with age and use.

The armoire is crowned with a sculpted cornice and stands on shaped feet, giving it a strong architectural presence while retaining balance and grace. The craftsmanship and restrained ornament reflect the quality of provincial French work of the late 18th century.

Condition:
The armoire is in good antique condition throughout, structurally sound and sturdy. There is evidence of historic woodworm, typical for furniture of this age, which has been professionally treated. The woodworm is inactive, and the piece shows no signs of ongoing infestation. There are minor marks, wear, and variations to the surface, all consistent with age and adding to its authentic character.

A handsome and practical piece of French antique furniture, ideal for use in a bedroom or as a statement storage piece in a period or contemporary interior.
