Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Japanese cloisonne enamel, known as shippo-yaki, experienced a golden age during the Meiji period between 1868 and 1912. Craftspeople refined techniques using fine metal wires applied to a copper or brass base to create intricate compartments filled with coloured enamel pastes before firing and polishing.

Traditional cloisonne chargers were constructed using a base metal, typically copper or brass, onto which thin wire ribbons were attached. These wires formed cells that were filled with vitreous enamel paste composed of ground glass and mineral metallic oxides.

Authentic Meiji-era pieces feature delicate wirework, precise colour separation, and a smooth, highly polished surface with minimal pitting. The underside often displays counter-enamel or exposed patinated metal showing natural signs of age.

A cloisonne charger can be displayed on a plate stand on a sideboard, mounted on a feature wall, or integrated into a gallery wall display. The rich colours and detailed metalwork complement dark wood furniture and eclectic interior schemes.

Clean cloisonne enamel gently using a soft, dry microfibre cloth, avoiding harsh chemicals, abrasives, or water immersion. Display the item away from direct sunlight, extreme temperature changes, and high humidity to prevent oxidisation of the copper base.
