A Raj Period Indian Carved Hard Wood Study of a Seated Elephant

This most unusual and high quality piece is hand carved from a single piece of hardwood.

It depicts an elephant in a most unusual seated position. The elephant has been very naturally captured by the artist carver who has worked to a very high standard with the finely carved detail to the elephant’s expression, limbs and trunk with an amazing skin texture showing every crease and wrinkle.

This pleasing piece is in excellent original condition. It has a rich colour and patina.
