FAQs

Vienna cold painted bronze refers to bronze sculptures produced in late 19th and early 20th-century Austria, where a cold-painting technique using layers of dust paint was applied to cast bronze rather than fired in a kiln.

These pieces typically consist of cast bronze that has been meticulously hand-painted with oil-based paints over a metallic base coat, often featuring whimsical or anthropomorphic subjects.

Authenticity is verified through the weight of the bronze, the characteristic patina, the specific texture of the cold paint, and often the presence of foundry marks or artist stamps such as the urn mark associated with Franz Xaver Bergmann.

Place small antique sculptures on bookshelves, mantelpieces, or desk tops where they can be appreciated up close as conversation pieces within a curated vignette.

Maintain these pieces by dusting gently with a soft, dry brush. Avoid all liquids, chemical solvents, and abrasive cleaners, as moisture will damage the fragile cold-painted surface.
