The original Hellenistic statue, discovered in 1820, became a pinnacle of classical aesthetic ideals, leading to numerous high-quality bronze reductions by prominent 19th-century foundries like Barbedienne.

These pieces were typically crafted using the lost-wax casting method (cire perdue) or sand casting, utilising a copper and tin alloy finished with chemical patination.

Authentication relies on identifying foundry marks, inspecting the quality of the chased details, analysing the depth and stability of the patina, and examining the casting seams appropriate to the era.

Placing a patinated bronze figure on a minimalist surface, such as a dark timber mantelpiece or a sleek side table, introduces historical depth and sculptural texture to modern rooms.

Maintenance requires dusting gently with a soft, dry microfibre cloth and avoiding all chemical cleaners, water, or abrasive polishes to protect the historic surface patina.
