This striking original watercolour pai
...nting by English artist Samuel Dennis Walley Timmins (1900–1951) is titled “The Road That Takes You Home” and dates from 1932. The artwork is signed and dated in the lower right corner, confirming its authenticity.
The composition captures a serene country lane framed by trees in full autumn colour. Rich, glowing shades of burnt orange, russet red, and deep violet dominate the foliage, contrasting beautifully with the soft tones of the sky and the pale pathway that draws the viewer into the distance. The strong use of colour and stylised shapes reflects Timmins’s unique artistic voice, balancing architectural precision with painterly atmosphere.
“The Road That Takes You Home” is not only a fine example of 1930s British landscape watercolour painting, but also a work that embodies the nostalgia and warmth associated with rural England. Collectors of English watercolours, Wolverhampton artists, or interwar period art will appreciate its appeal and enduring charm.
