Edouart Miniature Cut Silhouette of a Dog

Description

Augustin Edouart clearly understood and loved dogs as evidenced by his cleverly cut silhouettes of dogs of all shapes and sizes. He kept scrapbooks filled with his practice and experimental cuttings but these volumes were mostly all lost to the sea along with his personal archive when Edouart was shipwrecked off the coast of Guernsey in 1829. Some years ago a salvaged scrapbook came to light in a Parisian bookshop and this is the source of this unique cutting. The silhouette carries a stamp of authenticity within the frame.

The silhouette is presented in a gilt metal frame backed with green velvet with an arched gilt metal mount and a hanging ring.
