Bow front chests of drawers gained significant popularity during the late 18th and early 19th centuries, particularly within the Georgian and Regency periods, valued for their graceful curved facades that softened room geometry.

Authentic pieces are typically constructed from solid hardwoods like mahogany or oak, featuring hand-cut dovetail joints on the drawer construction and secondary softwood timbers for internal framing.

Authentication involves examining the drawer joinery for hand-cut dovetails, checking for irregular tool marks, observing timber oxidisation and shrinkage, and inspecting the hardware for period-appropriate fixings.

Pairing a traditional wooden chest with minimalist modern art, contemporary lighting, or neutral walls creates a balanced interior scheme that highlights the historical texture of the wood.

Preservation requires maintaining stable indoor humidity levels, avoiding direct sunlight to prevent fading, and applying occasional traditional beeswax rather than modern silicone polishes.
