This charming silhouette of a very young child has been placed within a beautifully worked decorative garland of chopped hair in two shades. The child wears a dress with a deeply frilled neckline. Painted in black on an ivory ground, the hair is lightly bronzed whilst the dress is heightened with Chinese white. The silhouette is set in a gold rim pendant frame, the reverse inset with reddish brown glass.The frame has never been opened; a barely noticeable single �antique� thunderbug is lodged under the bottom right edge of the glass. Otherwise in excellent condition.The Christie Collection of silhouettes was created by Margery (Madge) Christie (1885-1969) who bought her first silhouette at the age of eight on Brighton Pier. That was the start of a lifelong passion to be later continued by her son who, in his role in the RAF, travelled across the UK seeking out new pieces.
