Wigs on the Green has dated this piece to the Georgian era.
The silhouette is set in a gold rim pendant frame, the reverse inset with reddish brown glass.
The frame has never been opened; a barely noticeable single ‘antique’ thunderbug is lodged under the bottom right edge of the glass. Otherwise in excellent condition.
The Christie Collection of silhouettes was created by Margery (Madge) Christie (1885-1969) who bought her first silhouette at the age of eight on Brighton Pier. That was the start of a lifelong passion to be later continued by her son who, in his role in the RAF, travelled across the UK seeking out new pieces. The pieces in the collection date mostly from the golden era of 1770 to 1830 and include many jewellery pieces as well as porcelain.
