Late Gothic Carved Donor Figure, Upper Rhine, C.1500

£3,800    $5,128    €4,437
A striking late Gothic donor figure carved in chestnut, originating from the Upper Rhine region and dating to around 1500. The figure is shown kneeling in prayer with hands clasped, wearing flowing robes with beautifully carved folds and a well-defined bearded face full of character.

This would originally have formed part of an altar or devotional group, placed opposite a matching donor or beneath a sacred scene. At 71 cm high, it is an impressive and substantial carving with real presence.

The surface shows an attractive, centuries-old patina. Structurally sound and displaying very well.
