The Louis XV revival style, prevalent during the 19th century, is characterised by serpentine fronts, asymmetrical curves, floral marquetry patterns, and elaborate gilt bronze or ormolu mounts.

These pieces typically utilise a carcase of oak or pine veneered with exotic and native hardwoods such as walnut, mahogany, and fruitwoods, hand-cut to form intricate pictorial motifs.

Authenticity is determined by hand-cut dovetail joints, traditional animal-hide glue construction, naturally aged patination on the timber, and hand-chased gilt bronze hardware rather than modern cast metals.

Pairing this piece with minimalist contemporary art or a modern neutral palette creates a striking contrast, allowing the intricate woodwork and metallic mounts to serve as a focal point.

Maintain stable relative humidity levels, keep the piece away from direct sunlight and heat sources, and clean surfaces periodically with a soft, dry cloth without using silicone-based polishes.
