Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

The Neo-Pompeian style emerged during the 19th century, inspired by the archaeological excavations of Pompeii and Herculaneum. Metalworkers and bronze foundries produced ornamental items such as tazzas and urns featuring classical Roman reliefs and motifs for travelers completing the Grand Tour.

These decorative objects typically combine cast bronze components, finished with dark or brown patination, mounted onto solid marble plinths such as Siena yellow marble or Nero Marquina.

Authentic period pieces display crisp, hand-chased cast relief details, natural dark patination within the recessed areas, and hand-threaded rod construction securing the bronze upper to the marble base.

Pairing these classical metal objects symmetrically on a fireplace mantelpiece or console sideboard introduces strong architectural geometry and historical contrast against contemporary backdrops.

Dust bronze surfaces regularly with a dry microfibre cloth and avoid chemical metal cleaners that strip the original patination. Marble bases should be kept clear of acidic liquids and wiped clean with a slightly damp cloth.
