Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

FAQs

Victorian furniture spans the reign of Queen Victoria from 1837 to 1901, characterised by robust construction, revival styles, and the prevalent use of dark timbers such as mahogany and walnut.

Cabinet makers typically used solid mahogany, walnut, or pine for the main carcass and drawer linings, frequently incorporating hand-cut dovetail joints and cast brass or bronze hardware.

Authenticity is identified through hand-cut dovetailing on drawer construction, secondary timbers such as oak or pine on drawer interiors, and natural ageing like oxidisation on the brass handles.

Pairing a dark wood antique chest with minimalist decor, neutral walls, and contemporary lighting creates a balanced focal point that anchors a modern room.

Maintain antique wood by keeping it away from direct sunlight and heat sources, dusting regularly with a dry cloth, and applying natural beeswax periodically to nourish the finish.
