This nineteenth-century William IV rosewood jardiniere plant stand and two-tier table is constructed from dark brown timber with a warm patina and noticeable figuring. The versatile piece converts from a lamp table to a plant stand by removing the thick rosewood top to reveal an internal zinc plant holder, accessed via an original brass button below. Details include turned support columns, ornate fret-carved scroll galleries decorating the sides of the lower shelf, a turned central stretcher to the base, and scroll feet on quadriform supports. The piece measures 81.5 cm high, 61 cm wide, and 39 cm deep. In a modern home, this practical multi-purpose furniture item serves effectively as a plant stand positioned in a bay window, or functions alternatively as a lamp table in a living room, study, or hallway. The lower shelf offers additional surface space for books or display objects. The solid, sturdy construction makes it suitable for everyday interior use while retaining its period character.

Originating during the reign of King William IV between 1830 and 1837, a rosewood jardiniere table is a specialised piece of accent furniture crafted to display indoor potted plants and floral arrangements, often featuring a recessed tray top and secondary storage tiers.

These tables were typically crafted from dense, highly figured hardwoods such as Brazilian rosewood or rich mahogany. Construction details include hand-carved scrollwork, turned support columns, and robust stretchers fitted with scroll feet.

Authentic pieces showcase transitional design elements between the Regency and early Victorian eras, distinguished by substantial architectural turnings, bold carved foliage or scroll motifs, and natural age patina on internal tray surfaces and underside timber.

An antique jardiniere stand functions effectively in a sunlit bay window, entrance hallway, or living room alcove, providing an elevated platform for houseplants, ceramic vessels, or curated decorative objects.

Maintain rosewood by dusting regularly with a soft, dry cloth and applying a thin coat of natural beeswax polish annually. Ensure the stand is positioned away from direct heat radiators and direct sunlight to prevent timber shrinkage or fading.
