Description

Antique silver Record pocket watch, 1919.

The watch has a Swiss seven jewel stem-winding movement which is working nicely. The movement is signed with the Record name. It is all protected by an inner hinged cover.

The watch measures 50mm diameter excluding the winding stem and the loop. The case is silver and there are hallmarks inside both of the case backs, London (import mark), 1919, with a sponsor’s mark for George Stockwell. From 1 June 1907, Stockwells acted as assay agents, facilitating the import into Britain of foreign gold and silver items which had to be assayed and hallmarked in a UK assay office before being released for retail.

The case is in good condition, a couple of small indentations but not too detrimental at all. The case back has engine turned detail and a vacant cartouche to the centre.

The watch glass is in good condition.

The dial is in lovely condition with blued steel hands, a subsidiary seconds dial and outer minute markers.

The watch comes in a new presentation box.

ALL PRICES INCLUDE UK POSTAGE (because of GPSR legislation, we no longer post items less than 100 years old to Europe, including Northern Ireland).

Please contact us regarding international shipping.

All of our watches are checked over before listing, and are also checked for accuracy which is usually within around +/- two to three minutes over 24 hours (unless otherwise stated), which is considered respectable for a vintage watch.

We are a VAT registered company and all purchases are covered by Consumer Regulations.

Credit / debit card purchases up to £300 can be made over the telephone on 01386 750238 or you can proceed via the 'Purchase Antique' button on each listing page. Alternatively, there is a Paypal payment link if you scroll down the page and we also accept bank transfers.

We are an on-line only business and do not have facilities for callers. Our offices are open from Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm.

With regards to appraisals / valuations, we receive a huge number of information requests each day and unfortunately do not have the manpower to deal with them all individually. Our advice would be to contact a local auctioneer for a full appraisal.

Early 20th-century pocket watches reflect the height of traditional mechanical watchmaking, featuring reliable lever movements, clear enamel dials, and sturdy metal cases designed for daily professional use before wristwatches became ubiquitous.

These watches typically feature sterling silver or base metal cases, white enamel dials with painted numerals, glass crystals, and intricate brass or steel mechanical movements containing jewelled bearings.

Authenticity is verified by examining the hallmarking on the inner case, inspecting the movement engravings for maker marks and serial numbers, and checking the quality of the enamel dial and hand-finished mechanical components.

An antique pocket watch can be displayed on a dedicated pocket watch stand or kept within a glass-topped display case on a desk or bookshelf to add a touch of historical interest and horological charm.

Preservation requires keeping the watch away from moisture and magnetic fields, storing it in a stable environment, winding it carefully if operational, and having it serviced periodically by a professional horologist.
