Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

An English farmhouse dresser, often associated with Welsh and regional English styles, is a traditional piece of storage furniture developed in the 17th and 18th centuries. It combines a lower buffet or sideboard containing drawers and cupboards with an upper open rack designed to hold and display plates, pewter, and kitchenware.

Traditional dressers were constructed using solid native timbers, predominantly English oak, joined with hand-cut dovetails and wooden mortise and tenon joints. Hardware typically includes brass drop handles or swan-neck bail handles, alongside iron or brass hinges and keyhole escutcheons.

Authentic period dressers exhibit signs of age such as uneven timber shrinkage, hand-planed back boards, irregular dovetail joints, and natural oxidisation inside drawers. Original brassware usually leaves distinct shadow lines or secondary drill holes if handles were altered over time.

An antique dresser can be integrated into modern spaces by balancing its heavy timber texture with minimalist ceramics, white porcelain, or glass tableware on the open shelves. Placing it against a neutral wall colour creates visual contrast while preserving the structural presence of the furniture.

Maintain the timber surface by dusting regularly with a soft cloth and applying a high-quality beeswax polish once or twice a year to nourish the wood and maintain its patina. Keep the piece away from direct heat sources and excessive moisture to prevent warping or splitting of the solid oak boards.
