Samuel Alcock “Melting Snow” Tea Cup and Saucer Duo, Hand-painted, C.1825 #2

19th century
Description

A rare and finely crafted bone china tea cup and saucer by Samuel Alcock, Staffordshire, dating to circa 1825. This striking example features the factory’s celebrated and well documented “Melting Snow” mould, so named for its distinctive flowing relief pattern around the rim.

The decoration is entirely hand-painted with finely detailed florals and neoclassical gilding. The deep cobalt blue ground is contrasted with richly gilded panels - a striking combination of form and decoration.

This piece offers both historical interest and visual splendour and would make a refined addition to any good collection of English porcelain.

Dimensions:

Cup: 5.5 cm high × 9.2 cm diameter

Saucer: 14.2 cm diameter

Condition: Excellent antique condition, crisp detail and rich colour. No cracks, chips, or restorations, no glaze crazing and virtually no wear to gold.

Declaration

Touch of Time Antiques has dated this piece to the 1800s.
