Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Stipple engraving is a refined printmaking technique where tone and shading are built up using a pattern of small dots rather than continuous etched lines. Popularised during the late eighteenth century, it allowed printmakers to achieve soft gradations and reproduce fine painted details with exceptional accuracy.

In traditional stipple engraving, a copper or steel plate was pitted with dots using a roulette or etching needle. Ink was then applied either a la poupee (in single-plate multi-colour application) or hand-coloured using delicate watercolours after printing onto rag paper.

Authentic period stipple engravings display distinct plate marks pressed into heavy handmade paper, visible dot structures under magnification, and subtle variation in tone. Later photomechanical reproductions lack the characteristic indented plate impression and delicate dot texture of true copperplate engravings.

Grouped sets of narrative prints work well arranged in a linear grid or gallery wall above a sideboard or console table. Pairing traditional framed graphics with clean-lined modern furniture creates a sophisticated contrast between historic detailed art and contemporary architectural forms.

Framed antique prints should be displayed away from direct sunlight and sources of heat to prevent fading and paper brittleing. Conservation mounting using acid-free board and UV-filtering glass ensures long-term protection against discolouration, foxing, and environmental degradation.
