Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Georgian chests of drawers date from the reigns of George I through George IV (1714 to 1830). This era is characterised by a transition from heavier walnut to rich mahogany, featuring classical proportions, fine cabinetmaking techniques, and understated elegance influenced by prevailing architectural trends.

Authentic pieces were predominantly constructed from solid timber and veneers of imported mahogany, often incorporating secondary woods like oak or pine for drawer linings and carcases. Construction typically features hand-cut dovetail joints on drawers and traditional pegged mortise and tenon framing.

Authenticity is verified through examining hand-cut dovetails, timber shrinkage patterns, secondary woods, and original brass hardware or ghost marks from past fittings. Hand-planed drawer bottoms and irregular grain patterns visible in natural light further indicate age.

A period chest of drawers provides a grounding focal point in contemporary spaces, contrasting cleanly against neutral walls. It can be paired with minimalist modern art or contemporary lighting to create a balanced, curated aesthetic that highlights its craftsmanship.

Preservation requires maintaining stable indoor humidity and temperature levels away from direct sunlight and heat sources to prevent timber splitting or fading. Regular dusting with a soft cloth and occasional application of traditional beeswax help nourish and protect the finish.
