FAQs

Mid-century British watercolours often focused on regional topography, capturing rural landscapes and natural forms with expressive brushwork and muted, earthy colour palettes.

These works were typically created using gum-arabic based watercolours applied to heavyweight rag paper, tinted paper, or watercolour boards using sable hair brushes.

Authenticity is evaluated through close inspection of paper ageing, genuine artist signatures in ink or pencil, brushstroke variation under magnification, and the absence of modern printing dot patterns.

Original landscape works are best displayed using neutral mats and simple wooden frames, hung at eye level on plain walls to allow the narrative and texture of the painting to stand out.

Watercolours must be protected from direct sunlight to prevent pigment fading and paper yellowing, and should be framed using acid-free mounting boards under UV-filtering glass.
