Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Silk painting in Japan has a history spanning over a thousand years, originally influenced by Chinese techniques and traditional Buddhist art. By the Meiji and Taisho periods, figurative painting on silk, particularly depictions of women in traditional attire known as Bijinga, became a popular genre for domestic decoration and export.

Traditional Japanese silk paintings utilise finely woven silk mounted onto paper backing. Artists apply natural mineral pigments, animal hide glue binder (nikawa), and crushed ink sticks mixed with water using specialised bamboo brushes.

Authentic period pieces feature hand-painted brushwork rather than printed lines, visible texture in the woven silk substrate, and natural ageing marks such as subtle darkening or foxing. Inspecting the hand-executed linework under magnification usually reveals brush stroke variation.

Pairings of Japanese silk artwork function well hung symmetrically above sideboards, consoles, or along hallways. Their neutral textile backgrounds and structured frames integrate into both traditional period rooms and modern minimalist interiors.

Silk paintings must be displayed away from direct sunlight to prevent fading and degradation of the silk fibres. They should be framed behind UV-protective glass with acid-free matting and kept in a climate-controlled room free from extreme humidity fluctuations.
