A banjo barometer is a type of weather-measuring instrument housed in a distinctive curved wooden case resembling a banjo, which gained widespread popularity during the 19th century.

These instruments typically featured solid wood cases such as mahogany, oak, or walnut, combined with brass bezels, glass faces, and hand-inscribed paper or enamel dials.

Authenticity is determined by examining the construction methods, such as hand-cut screws, aged timber patination, traditional mercury or early aneroid movements, and maker signatures inscribed on the dial.

An antique barometer functions effectively as a focal point on a narrow wall space or within a hallway, pairing well with transitional or traditional decor schemes to add historical texture.

Preservation requires avoiding direct sunlight and fluctuating humidity levels to protect the wood finish, while the mechanical movement should be handled or serviced only by a professional horologist.
