Fine French Miniature Portrait of a Gentleman

A fine quality portrait miniature of a gentleman by Jean-Baptiste-Ferdinand Mulnier. The work is done in exquisite detail and is in very good condition. The Mulnier family of miniaturists worked in Nantes and Paris, examples of their work are highly desirable being of the finest quality. There was a senior and junior Mulnier and this piece overlaps their work making it difficult to ascribe to one or the other. This portrait retains the original bur walnut frame which is of a great colour and is in excellent condition with only some losses to the edge. The ormolu mount and convex glass are also the original. The whole is a superb example of the miniaturist’s work. C.1820.
