Surface: Board
Artist and signature: Signed by William B Dealtry (1915-2007)
William B.
Born in 1915, he developed a confident plein-air style, using broad brushwork and a rich, earthy palette to capture the changing moods of the English countryside and sea.

Dealtry painted extensively in and around Whitby, Staithes, Sandsend, and the Moors, producing vigorous works that balance structural observation with painterly freedom. His paintings are notable for their spontaneity and emotional atmosphere — qualities that have earned him a strong regional following and continued collector interest.

Though less widely exhibited during his lifetime, Dealtry’s works have increasingly appeared in auctions and private galleries since the 1990s. His oil paintings often depict familiar but fading views of traditional Yorkshire life, and his loyal handling of land, sky, and light gives each piece a sense of immediacy and place.
