FAQs

Early 20th century landscape oil paintings often reflect a shift towards impressionistic brushwork and en plein air techniques, capturing natural light and industrial transformation with expressive textures.

Artists during this period frequently utilised primed wooden panels, millboard, or cardboard as a sturdy and cost-effective alternative to stretched canvas, applying traditional oil-based pigments with hog-bristle brushes.

Authenticity is determined by examining the ageing of the oil pigments through micro-craquelure, natural oxidation of the varnish, the composition of the board substrate, and often the presence of period framing or artist signatures.

An antique oil painting adds historic depth and character to contemporary spaces, and can be highlighted with traditional picture lights or paired with minimalist frames to create a striking focal point.

Preservation requires maintaining stable indoor humidity and temperature levels, avoiding direct sunlight to prevent pigment fading, and periodically dusting the surface with a soft, dry artists brush.
