American Regency Recamier Chaise Longue C1825

Description

A diminutive American Regency period Recamier Chaise Longue. Raised on Carved paw front feet and turned back legs. Nicely figured mahogany front show wood and with a pine frame. The rear of the piece has an inscription which we believe reads 'H Shmidt - Boston Massachusetts 1762' The 1762 possibly refers to an address and not the date it was manufactured.

The overall structure of the piece is sound. It does have some historic restorations and 1 stretcher to the base has been replaces, likely when it was last recovered. The seat needs re-webbing. The he seat and bolster cushions are horsehair filled and probably original with newer re-worked hessian covers.
