A lowboy is a small table with one or more drawers, originating in the late 17th and early 18th centuries, commonly used as a dressing table or side table.

Authentic period lowboys are typically constructed from native timbers such as oak or walnut, featuring traditional joinery like mortise and tenon joints and hand-cut dovetails on the drawers.

Authenticity is assessed by examining the hand-tool marks, timber shrinkage patterns, period-correct brass hardware, and the integrity of the structural joinery.

An antique lowboy provides functional surface space and warmth, working well as a focal point in a hallway or paired with contemporary seating to create contrast.

Maintain the timber by keeping it away from direct heat sources and sunlight, and periodically nourish the surface with traditional beeswax rather than modern silicone polishes.
