The House of Antiques has dated these Antique Italian Altar Angels to the 19th Century.
These artefacts would have been mounted either side of a large alter archway of sorts. With similar examples attributed to artists like Johann Peters Schwanthaler. They are characterized by their carved, gesso and polychrome painted, gilded surfaces, typical of the baroque style. The detail carving of the faces, wings and drapery indicates skilled craftsmanship.

In overall very presentable good solid condition, elements of painted surface is missing due to age, one of the angels has a large toe missing as shown. There are no structural cracks in the wooden detail such as one of the hands across the angel’s chest as shown in the close up photos. The bottom of the figures still have supporting holes as this is likely where they would have been joined to a large archway setting. All original in condition and untouched without over painting.
The figures do not come with the supporting metal stands as these were used for photographic purposes only.
