Here we have an excellent Baroque figure of Saint Roch c1740. As you can see the figure has wonderful colour and patina. The figure has retained the original polychrome paint. The colours are good and the figure is in excellent condition. Amongst other things Saint Roch was the patron saint of dogs. It is said that at a time of need a dog brought him bread and licked a wound on his leg helping to heal it. Hence the carved dog by his side and the lifted skirt in this depiction.
