FAQs

Historical maritime art typically captures coastal scenes, shipping vessels, and harbours with a focus on realistic lighting, atmospheric perspective, and detailed depiction of nautical architecture.

Authentic period works are typically executed in oil-based pigments applied to stretched woven canvas or wooden panels, housed within hand-carved or molded giltwood and gesso frames.

Authenticity is assessed by examining canvas ageing, craquelure patterns in the oil pigment, stretcher frame construction, artist signatures, and the presence of historic framing materials.

These works add depth and historical contrast when hung against neutral walls, paired with minimalist contemporary furnishings to let the traditional subject matter stand out.

Protect paintings by maintaining stable indoor humidity and temperature, keeping them out of direct sunlight, and avoiding chemical cleaners on both the canvas and the antique frame.
