Tetsubin are traditional Japanese cast iron kettles originally used for boiling water for green tea, evolving from utilitarian vessels into highly prized decorative arts during the Edo and Meiji periods.

These vessels are traditionally crafted from poured cast iron using specialised sand-moulding techniques, often enhanced with nunome-zogan (inlay) work utilising precious metals like gold and silver.

Authentic pieces typically exhibit hand-finished textures, artisan signatures or maker marks, precise metal inlay work, and natural patination consistent with age and traditional craftsmanship.

Such decorative objects can be displayed as standalone sculptural elements on open shelving, sideboards, or coffee tables, contrasting against neutral or minimalist backgrounds.

Preservation involves keeping the item in a stable, dry environment away from moisture to prevent rust, avoiding harsh chemical cleaners, and only dusting gently with a soft, dry cloth.
