An aneroid barometer measures atmospheric pressure without using liquid mercury, utilising a flexible metal box. The design gained widespread popularity during the Victorian era following its invention in the mid-19th century.

These instruments typically feature solid hardwoods such as walnut, oak, or mahogany, often with intricate hand-carved frames, brass bezels, and white enamel or porcelain dials protected by glass.

Authenticity is indicated by period-appropriate hand-cut screws, genuine age-related patination on the wood and brass, traditional hand-painted or engraved dial lettering, and mechanical movement wear consistent with nineteenth-century production.

An antique wall barometer serves as a striking focal point when hung individually on a panelled wall or integrated into a curated gallery display within a study, hallway, or living room.

Keep the barometer away from direct sunlight, extreme temperature fluctuations, and high moisture areas. Dust the wood gently with a dry, soft cloth and avoid applying modern chemical polishes.
