Ship launch shears or ribbon-cutting scissors were traditionally crafted as commemorative presentation pieces used by dignitaries to sever the ceremonial cord during vessel launchings.

These ceremonial objects were typically forged from steel for functional cutting edges, combined with cast bronze, brass, or gilt metal handles featuring elaborate decorative motifs.

Authentic pieces generally exhibit period-appropriate hand-chased or cast detailing, specific engraved dates or ship names, and natural age-related patination on the metal surfaces.

Displaying such items within a glass-topped display case, on a dedicated stand, or flat on a desk allows their intricate craftsmanship and historical narrative to serve as a focal point.

Preserve the metal by keeping it in a stable, low-humidity environment, avoiding abrasive polishes that remove historic patination, and applying microcrystalline wax sparingly if protection is required.
