Archival Detail
Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A chest on chest, also termed a tallboy, is a vertical piece of storage furniture comprising two stacked chests of drawers. This configuration became highly prominent in Britain during the early 18th century, particularly during the George I reign, to maximise storage while saving floor space.

George I pieces frequently incorporate figured walnut veneers laid over pine or oak carcasses, complemented by featherbanding or crossbanding along drawer fronts. Dovetail drawer construction, hand-carved bracket feet, and cast brass backplate handles are standard period features.

Authentic pieces feature hand-sawn drawer linings, uneven hand-cut dovetails, original pine or oak secondary timber, and natural shrinkage cracks in the veneer. Period brass hardware typically leaves distinct fitting marks or original split-pin fixings on the interior drawer fronts.

A Georgian tallboy functions well as a focal piece in a hallway, dressing room, or primary bedroom. Pair the warm walnut timber alongside neutral paint palettes, textured linen soft furnishings, and modern contemporary lighting to create visual balance.

Keep the furniture away from direct heat sources and sunlight to prevent veneer lifting or fading. Clean the surface using a dry microfibre cloth and apply a quality beeswax paste once or twice a year to maintain hydration and luster.
