Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Georgian pewter tankards from the eighteenth century typically feature bulbous or straight-sided bodies, moulded base rims, and hinged lids with decorative thumbpieces. These vessels reflect the metalworking standards of the era, produced primarily for tavern and household beverage service.

Traditional pewter is an alloy composed mainly of tin mixed with copper, lead, or antimony to increase durability. Tankards were cast in heavy iron or brass moulds, then turned on a lathe to finish the surface before handles and hinges were soldered in place.

Authentic pieces from this period often display touchmarks stamped into the metal by the maker, alongside verification or capacity marks near the rim. Natural oxidisation, surface pitting, and soft wear around the handle and base also indicate genuine historical age.

Pewter tankards add historical texture when displayed on wooden shelving, mantelpieces, or sideboard tops within dark academia or traditional country interiors. They function as decorative standalone objects, floral vessels for dried botanical displays, or curated elements in a barware arrangement.

Antique pewter should be washed gently by hand using mild soap and warm water, avoiding abrasive polishes that strip historical patina. Storing pewter in a dry environment prevents oxidation, while occasional light application of microcrystalline wax protects the surface metal.
