Japanese Mixed Metal Tray with Floral Inlay, Meiji Period Style
A finely crafted Japanese mixed metal tray, likely dating from the late Meiji period or early 20th century. The copper ground is decorated with delicate inlaid designs of flowers and foliage, executed in silver and brass using the traditional zogan (inlay) technique. The design features chrysanthemums and peonies arranged in a circular composition, symbolising longevity and prosperity in Japanese art.
The tray has a slightly raised rim, with a smooth, polished reverse in brass or bronze. Signs of light wear and tarnishing are present, consistent with age, and there is a small separation at the rim, as photographed.
Dimensions: 27 cm diameter
Materials: Copper, silver and brass inlay
Condition: Light surface wear; minor rim split and distortion; otherwise good decorative order
