Miles Griffiths Antiques Ltd has dated this piece to the Edwardian era.
A lovely Edwardian antique oil painting by the Squire of Clapham Estate North Yorkshire around 1910. Very local to here at Miles Griffiths Antiques, the painting is on jute and signed by Sidney, S.J.Farrer, mounted in the original ebonised frame. Lots of original labels on the back, having been exhibited at the Bradford Gallery. Titled The road through Lawkland. In superb condition. The Farrer family were major land owners in the North of England but lived around the village of Clapham, mostly in Ingleborough Hall, but, as a Squire, Sidney himself chose to live at nearby Newby Cote rather than at Ingleborough Hall where his mother lived on.
