1960s Longines Watch

1940 - 1960
For Sale by Its About Time
Description

A nice example of a manual winding, Longines watch in stainless steel, measuring 34.5mm across, not including the winding crown. The silvered dial is original and has not been restored, showing great patina, tastefully plain with silver baton indices, engine turned sub seconds dial, and classic Longines symbol. The original owner spent years living in Africa, and regularly shipped the watch to Longines for servicing throughout its lifetime, and as such the movement works very well. Supplied on a new brown leather strap.

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Mid-twentieth-century Longines timepieces are recognised for their Swiss craftsmanship, reliable mechanical movements, and minimalist dial designs featuring sub-seconds registers or slender baton hands.

Cases from this era were typically manufactured using stainless steel, gold plate, or solid gold, fitted with acrylic crystals and paired with stitched leather straps.

Authenticity is confirmed by examining movement serial numbers, interior case back hallmarks, dial typography, and cross-referencing calibre movement details with factory archival records.

A classic stainless steel wristwatch with a tan leather strap serves as a versatile accessory suitable for pairing with formal tailoring, business wear, or smart casual clothing.

Mechanical timepieces require routine servicing by a qualified horologist every three to five years, alongside careful protection from moisture, strong magnetic fields, and sudden impact.
