FAQs

A banjo barometer is a wheel-type weather instrument featuring a distinctive bulbous lower section and a tapering upper stem, which gained widespread popularity during the 19th century.

Victorian barometers were typically constructed using solid timbers such as oak, mahogany, or rosewood, housing brass instrument dials, glass dial covers, and mercury or aneroid mechanical movements.

Authenticity is identified through period-appropriate hand-carved woodwork, hand-written or engraved paper dials, patinated brass bezels, and historical construction techniques such as hand-cut screws and aged joinery.

An antique barometer can be mounted on a prominent wall as a focal point in a study, hallway, or living room, blending historical character with traditional or transitional interior schemes.

To preserve a vintage barometer, mount it securely on an interior wall away from direct sunlight, excessive moisture, and rapid temperature fluctuations, and clean the wooden case gently with a dry, soft cloth.
